EBB & FLOW

The San Lorenzo River snakes through downtown Santa Cruz and drains into the ocean at Compton Beach. The river is the City’s largest water supply. What happens when the river runs dry? 2013 was one of the driest years on record in Northern California. The once robust river is now a muddy ebbing tributary.

“Ebb and Flow” sought to raise awareness about how the drought in 2014 affected water sustainability. The audience was invited to hold a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) up to images of the San Lorenzo River that follow its path through downtown Santa Cruz until it meets the sea. The audience will hear a short sound byte relating to the image accompanied by abstract visuals.
